Aldi Shopping Tips

(Part of my Couponing 101 feature)

If you’re new to shopping at Aldi, get ready for a shopping shock.  It is a no-frills, no advertisements, no-“frou-frou,” store.  But boy, you sure can find some great deals there!  I’ve got an Aldi about 5 miles from my house, and I go there every week.  I’m a big Aldi fan.  I usually buy my milk, cheese, some meats, frozen pizzas, macaroni & cheese, potato chips and snacks, canned vegetables, and toaster pastries there.

Here’s the link to Aldi’s website to learn more about the company.

Remember these things when shopping at Aldi:

1.      The Aldi Weekly Ad specials and promotions run from Sunday through Saturday. You can pick up the ad in the store, but they may not be included in your newspaper.  The ads can also be viewed online or via email newsletter.

2.      Most things Aldi carries are their own exclusive brands, but they do have some brand name products they bring in each week.

3.      You probably can’t do all your weekly grocery shopping at Aldi.  But you’ll be able to find most staples and some special treats that you’ll need for the week, then finish up at another store.  For example, last week, I was making banana pudding and found some instant vanilla pudding, Vanilla wafers, and milk, but had to get the rest of my ingredients at the regular grocery store.  View their grocery selections here.

4.      Take a quarter with you.  You’ll need it to “borrow” a grocery cart.  You get the quarter back when you return the cart to it’s place.  Kind-of annoying, but it saves you money because then they don’t have to pay an extra employee to keep the parking lot free of carts.  Makes sense, and I really don’t mind the extra exercise.

5.      Take your own shopping bags.  If you don’t, then you’ll have to purchase one at the store, or go without.  Another way they save you money.  And, hey, it’s great for the environment too.

6.      Aldi’s doesn’t accept coupons.

7.      They don’t accept credit cards or checks, but they do accept debit cards, and EBT cards, as well as cash.
